My soap is made in small batches, and each one varies a little. I never make two bird houses exactly the same. Every plant I grow has its own character. No two people are the same. I try to celebrate that.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you or your business?  We do it all ourselves. We have no employees.

What’s the best thing about being a farmer and crafter? Being an independent business person at this stage in life, and being able to share my joy of gardening with many people each week at the market.

What’s the worst? Packing up at home, unpacking at the market, packing up at the end of the day, unpacking at home. It’s work!

What do you like best about selling at the Bellingham Farmers Market? The customers. I’ve never had a crabby customer at the market.

Photo Courtesy of Cynthia St. ClairWhen you were a kid, is this what you thought you’d be doing as a grown-up? Am I a grown-up? Really, making mud pies or making sand-cast leaves… pretty much the same.

What is your favorite memory? I had a wonderful childhood, growing up in a big family on a farm in Montana. Money was scarce, but we had plenty to eat from everything we raised and grew. I’ll always appreciate that.

Please give us a brief bio. I moved to Whatcom County in 1969. I’ve been married for 39 years (to the same man!) and we raised two sons at our home near Everson. I was a school secretary for many years, but after the kids were grown and married I was able to quit my day job and follow my passion for all things concerning gardens.

What are your hobbies and how did you get started with them? My all-consuming hobby is gardening. I’ve always loved all of nature and feel extremely blessed to have made a business out of my hobby.

What word best describes you? Happy

Do you have a guilty pleasure? Chocolate

Smart TripsSmart Trip Leaders Earn Market Rewards

A Smart Trips is any trip that keeps a car off the road, like walking, biking, riding the bus or carpooling.   Everyone who logged 200 or more trips from July 08 to July 09 is a Smart Trips Leader.  There were 820 Smart Trips Leaders this year who received $15 coupons to spend at the Farmers Market.  To simplify the process this years, vendors may accept the coupons for their $15 cash value and make change accordingly.  Some vendors may require a minimum purchase as they are limited on the amount of change they can provide.  Congratulations to all the winners and happy shopping!
