Prepare to channel that inner chef as the Bellingham Farmers Market and COUNTRY® Financial begin accepting submissions for the second annual COUNTRY Chef Challenge! This year, the competition highlights local residents’ culinary skills and honors the community’s best squash recipes and abundant squash harvest. Recipe submissions will be accepted between Aug. 23 and Sept. 11. A panel of judges will review all submissions and narrow the field to two finalists.

On Saturday Oct. 9, the two finalists will make their recipes, live at the Bellingham Farmers Market, with the help of local chefs, as they compete for the Master of the Market title. The grand prize winner, decided by customers sampling the two completed dishes, will receive prizes worth more than $300, including Market Bucks and gift cards to the restaurants of the participating local chefs. Recipes may feature any kind of squash, but no more than four other ingredients (not including salt and pepper, olive oil, butter and herbs).

Entries should list the cook’s name, home and email address, and phone number. Local residents may submit a recipe via email to site@bellinghamfarmers.com. Entries may also be mailed or hand-delivered to the Bellingham Farmers Market office (112 Ohio St., Suite 206, Bellingham, WA 98225) or local COUNTRY Financial offices in Lynden and Bellingham (400 Liberty St., Lynden, WA 98264 and 123 W. Kellogg Rd., Bellingham, WA 98226). Entrants must be able to participate in the October 9th cook-off scheduled for 11am.
